LOCAL 310 AND LOCAL 317 ANNOUNCE MERGER
Members of Local 310 and Local 317 have voted in favor of a merger between the two Wisconsin unions. The merger will become effective June 1, 2012 following approval by the General President of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Current Local 317 Business Manager Mark Maierle will serve as the Business Manager of the new local union and Pat Kelly, current President of Local 310, will serve as President.
The new local union will represent members at 20 employers in Wisconsin including Wisconsin Public Service (Green Bay), We Energies (Milwaukee), Calumet Specialty Products (Superior), Dominion Power (Kewaunee) and Manitowoc Public Utilities.
Members of the new local union perform work in power generation and transmission, refinery production, water treatment, building maintenance, equipment operation and repair, clerical and other areas. Offices will be maintained in Oak Creek (Milwaukee County) and Green Bay.
The following statement is from Local 310 Business Manager Tom Rosenberg and Local 317 Business Manager Mark Maierle:
“We are pleased to form a new local union of the Operating Engineers in Wisconsin. This consolidation enhances the ability of our union to represent our members and support our signatory employers. Our members proudly perform skilled work and provide critical services throughout the state. We will continue to focus on being a first class organization dedicated to improving the lives of working families and helping our employers to succeed in a changing economic landscape.”
Local 310 is headquartered in Green Bay, WI and was formed in 1934 by employees at the Pulliam Power Plant. Local 317 was formed in 1939 by employees of Wisconsin Electric. Both are stationary locals of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Traditional stationary engineers perform a variety of maintenance and equipment operation jobs. Many stationary engineers hold boiler licenses and the emblem for the International is the steam gauge.
